Bike friendly B&B - Penzance?

Post by ebgt »

Can anyone recommend a bike-positive place to stay one night in Penzance in June? Budget-conscious is good.

YHA? You can get a private room if you don't fancy sharing a dorm. They have a lockable bike shed.

The YHA at Illogan (TR16 4QX) is good, using it myself again end of May.

There's a hostel calling itself Lands End that's just outside (but up a fair sized hill to) St Just. If you are considering as far away as Illogan perhaps Premier Inn Hayle which is nearer to Penzance and virtually flat all the way there.

Yep.
I was cracking off more of my quest to ride all of the Cornish roads.

I drove to Penzance June 2016, parked up at the hotel and did a ride, whilst Mrs Mick F took the train.
I met her after my ride at the station and we walked into town for a meal and drinks, then back to the hotel and stayed over B+B.
Lugger Inn

They were happy for me to leave the car there dead early in the morning before booking in and letting me ride away to come back later that day. The Moulton stayed in the car overnight.

Next day, she walked into Newlyn and back whilst did another ride, and we stayed over B+B again.
Following day, we drove back home.

Nope!

Just one 60mile ride and the other of 52miles.
TBH, the hills are easier down west.

Tomorrow, I'm off to Camborne for a 45mile ride to get more Cornish roads done.
45miles round here means 4,500ft of ascent, but my ride tomorrow won't even reach 3,000ft.

I would say it's always worth checking first if they have somewhere secure to lock your bike. Some will happy lock your bike in their cellar/store room/garage. Some will wonder why you have an issue leaving it locked out the front.

Did the ride, and it topped the 3,000ft.
46.02 miles
3,387ft of ascent.
Nevertheless, that's an easy 73.6ft per mile.
