weighty issue

Post by althebike »

I had a brilliant plan to shed lard around the belly. I would only take as much gear on jogle as I could lose in body weight.
So time to pack, and I cannot actually take anything, and may have to saw the bike in half too. :(

Sorry don't understand

Can you show mathematically what is meant, or with a diagram?

I am 80 kg
Bike 17 kg
Luggage?

If one is still too heavy one may continue

Just don't eat on the ride until you have lost the weight of your baggage. Simple! That should concentrate the mind when packing.

The Idea was if I lost 10lbs in weight between planning the trip and packing for it, then I would allow myself 10lbs of luggage but as I did not lose any weight maybe I do not deserve any luggage.
I am in day 14 if the ride, I have had 2 take away curries and one el cheapo chinese meal in the evening, otherwise living on breakfast and a flapjack/brownie, or similar at one of the two daily cafe stops. I have so far put on 4 lbs. It can only be the fried food that is doing it. At most guest houses I ask for porridge and omelette but sometimes I have to select off a list. Even asking for poached eggs often means it comes on fried bread. Guest house owners expect their guests to expect fried breakfasts, but surely this is 1950s mentality?

It's unlikely to be due to eating fried foods. It could be that you are taking so few calories that body has entered starvation mode to conserve energy. Don't eat less than 1200 calories per day without consulting a dietician or specialist, especially undertaking something like LEJoG.

I hate cooked breakfast, other than toast or porridge. Nothing from a frying pan gets anywhere near my mouth at breakfast, ever. The smell of fried breakfast makes me feel sick.

LEJOG is not really the time to lose weight. Get those carbs in. If you are increasing muscle mass, that makes you heavier.
