Hi,

I have a bit of a techie question regarding downloading of GPX files to my Garmin 820.

Just downloaded above files to my PC in preparation for my Le Jog trip next month and then simply dragged and dropped them to the ''NEW FILES'' Folder of My Garmin 820 whilst it was connected to my PC by the USB connection. When I go to the ''Courses'' Section of my actual Garmin device screen I can see the files loaded there so guess that's fine. HOWEVER , when I reconnect my Garmin to my PC and open the ''Courses'' folder of the Garmin Device on my PC, I see that file types have now changed from GPX to ''FIT'' . Is it correct that the files should change to FIT ? Are these files going to work when I start navigating ? Dont want to get all the way to Lands end to find out they are dud files. Can anyone guide me on this please ? Many thanks in advance.

Can't help you at all but I wanted to say that I will carry the Cicerone cue sheets as well as the GPS files 'cos I prefer to look at sheets rather than a tiny screen.

Answer to question : Yes - Mr Garmin converts your .gpx file to his own proprietary format .fit file . All is well (if not altogether obvious!)

If you want to double check things you could always load-up your course (on the Garmin) and view the information - summary, map, elevation etc.

If that info looks in order - the milages match, you have an elevation profile etc. then you should be all good.

Where do you get the Cicerone hard copy sheets from...?
Agonising on whether it's worth getting a Garmin just for this trip or not!!

I'm working on it, I should probably spend a bit more time on finishing it.

The Cicerone guide book doesn't provide the cue sheet, so I'm having to do it all by hand - or fingers since I'm inputting it onto excel sheets. 8)

This is an (partial) example of how I cue my randonnering rides and how I wlll do the End to End cue sheets. the original is on excel but it doesn't translate well with copy and paste, but you get the idea.
