Commemorative Map?

Post by FasterFerret »

Does anyone know of a company that would be able to print out a poster-sized map of the UK with my JOGLE route overlaid on it?

I have a nice space on my office wall that needs some decoration...

If you can create a file on your computer then there are lots of small printers who could do it - talk to your local ones and see what file format they would prefer. Or photo shops like Jessops print posters.

I produced my own in two pieces of A4, stuck them together carefully, then had it photocopied onto A3.
No doubt it could have been enlarged using a suitable photocopier up to A2 or A1.

I fear that if you altered a printed map DIY then asked a commercial printer to make a large copy there might be copyright problems. OS produce all sorts of specially commissioned one-off maps but I could imagine something like this being in arm-and-a-leg territory, even if they do it.

So RWGPS gets you close. Not as 'pretty' as I would like it to be though. And the zoom function is not very precise - you either get half of France or you start chopping bits off the top and the bottom.

Email sent to support, let's see what they come back with...

Just as a matter of interest, although it may interest you or not :-) I had a commemorative frame sticker made of my route.

I bought a large laminated map and added marker pins to where I stayed. Possibly with right laminated surface and marker pen you could draw your route. Just an idea

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have actually managed to make some progress on this. I will post the details shortly.
