I'm trying to sort a lift to Aberdeen for July (from Jog), I've got it sorted from there back to Brighton. Any ideas?

If you have the time (and money!) you could take the ferry from Gill's Bay to St Margaret's Hope, then cycle to Kirkwall and get the ferry to Aberdeen.

Why would you not use the Train. Trainline showing a £15.50 single Wick to Aberdeen on 1st July.

Of course getting a bike space is the issue. If you know your date you need to set up an email alert and be ready to book asap on the day cheap tickets are released.

Went to station after work but ticket office said train time table for the 7th July not yet released?
All the fares are standard £176 not the dynamic pricing you get for earlier dates?

Fill in your details on Trainline's Advance Tickets warning page.

https://www.thetrainline.com/ticketalert

Then you get an e-mail at the exact time cheap advance tickets are released. For my date it was something like 0540. So have your phone beside your bed. Tickets are often released Thu or Fri so I'd expect 7th July tickets to be out in the next 3 days.

Don't book through Trainline as you can't book bike spaces. Either use

https://www.gwr.com/plan-journey

phone Crosscountry - Not sure if I phoned Reservations: 0371 244 2389 or Sales: 0844 811 0124

When you buy tickets via CrossCountry the tickets are posted but they give you a code over the phone to print the bike reservations at any station.

Or if you are handy for your local station research the times and prices online then hotfoot it to the station and book ticket and bike there.

Haven't got my return ticket yet.
Trainline will do me one for £176
Seat 61 cannot find a route!
Perhaps I need to break it down into bite sized chunks!!

I don’t know why you’ve trouble with seat61. A quick look this morning and it looks like all cheaper tickets have gone. You’ve missed the boat as they say. If you were to change to Wednesday 10th of July then your journey could be £58.68 :D

Figured it
I need to travel Sunday which is causing issues.
I will most likely take the x99 coach to Inverness at 8.58 to get a head start on the earliest train at noon.

Rang trainline who say that bike reservations aren't available yet!
Worse case I get the bike couriered back!

Ahh Sunday, yes that will have been your problem. Good luck with a Sunday, so often coaches in place, because of line working. I’d assumed you be travelling Monday.

Obvious route through Lancaster to kendal is via A6 but if you turn left onto the A6070 at pine lakes it's seems quieter and more direct?

Booked my train tickets back - Thurso to Brum. Around 13 hours on the train for £30. Don't know how Scotland can run its train so cheap?
