Off on my LEJOG June 13th
Well, after all the planning, training etc, i'm one week away from my LEJOG.
All the kit has been tested, trial runs with tent done.
2 week old Super Galaxy goes to LBS for a once over tomorrow.
I would just like to say a BIG "thank you" to all the people who have responded to my questions over the last 8 or so months and add that the forum has been a gold-mine as far as gathering info.
Cheers boys and girls.

Pictures and an account of the trip to follow next month.
Look forward to reading it.
Good luck!

Careful of Dartmoor!
I came down past the north of the moor on Saturday 7th with VERY heavy rain and thunder up there. I was in the dry and the sun, but the moor was BLACK!!!!!
There's something difficult about Dartmoor. It has to do with the proximity to the Atlantic and Channel coasts. Very unlike any other high moorland in UK. The weather can be rotten, so it always a good idea to pay attention to the weather forecasts and have an alternative route in your back pocket. Conversely, the weather can be glorious!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Many cyclists have had a great time up there, and won't believe what I'm saying. It's full of scenery, hills, wildlife and views. But I'm warning you - be wary. There ain't no shelter. And it's a long way over the top.

Yup - travelling down from Hertfordshire on 13th.
To cut a long story short, one of the team is not camping, thus we are all staying in B&B about 4 miles from LE.
The intention is to re-assemble bikes on 13th, ride to LE - get photo's etc, cycle back to B&B and then start from B&B on the saturday morning.
Mick - question for you. Looking at the forecast for sunday, is going across the middle of Dartmoor viable?
The bit across Dartmoor is fabulous, even though it's a bit hilly!
Are you really starting on friday 13th?

Hey, I ain't no weatherman! And certainly not an expert on Dartmoor.
Looking out of the window today I would definitely say it will be lovely up there. I nearly went up there yesterday after reassembling Bike, but took a shorter and easier route round Brentor and down to Tavistock. More of a test ride than anything else.
As for Sunday, don't they say this fine weather is going to end shortly?
Here's the forecast lifted off the Met Office site:
Weather forecast: South West England
No severe weather warnings have been issued for South West England
Wed 11 Jun Thu 12 Jun Fri 13 Jun Sat 14 Jun Sun 15 Jun
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Sunny spells and generally dry by day, with just isolated mainly light showers. Temperatures around or just below normal with mostly light or moderate winds.

Sounds ok to me!
But as I said, on Saturday I came down from beyond Okehampton in lovely warm sunshine, but up on the moor I could see huge dense black clouds and hear thunder. Thick mist and darkness too. I was tired and really want to take a photograph but didn't want to get out of rhythm as I need a cafe stop!
(Beans on toast and two mugs of tea in a cafe on the main street in Okehampton. 22 miles home from there. I did 106 on the last day.)

Great stuff.
Metcheck is telling me a max of 16 degrees, fair with light (4mph) northerlies.
Mick - pity you can't join us, although you would probably show me up for what I am. There is very little in the way of hills near me (might have mentioned that in the past, once or twice) and when I meet one, I go up very slowly.
Just in the process gathering all the kit together to pack tomorrow. New Super Galaxy just had its first check up this morning. Got a clean bill of health (as one would expect on a bike with only 500 miles on it).
Just waiting to go now. BBQ thisafternoon, weather permitting. Possible hangover tomorrow (oh well, it is my birthday tomorrow. Bit of a booze up this evening. Didn't fancy driving to cornwall on friday with a bad head).
Wheres the Sun? Over the yard-arm! Time for a beer, I think
