Exactly!
People do it, because it's iconic, not because it's a practical idea.

When you get to JOG, what do yo do?
Not many places to stay, few of your friends and relations will be there, and it's a boring windswept place and it's difficult to get home.

Do it the other way, and arrive at LE and more than likely there'll be a reception for you.
Coach loads of tourists turn up hourly and there's so many people there and they'll all pat you on your back and congratulate you.
If you want, you can ride the ten miles back into Penzance where there's pubs/hotels/shops/B+Bs/car parks/railway station/big fast dual carriageway ...................

All your mates can be there, your welcome committee, and everybody.

PS:
Best thing, if you have the time to do it, is to do it both ways.
Start off at LE, ride to JOG, and turn round and head back to LE.

It took me three weeks to do it in 2006.

Don't wholly agree about Glencoe. I did Cicerone route 1,020 miles ish and enjoyed Glencoe on a cold, grey September morning. I split the ride and left Tyndrum about 9am and seemed to beat most of the traffic and tour buses!!!
I am just north of Llanelli, where in West Wales are you??

The prevailng wind for the UK is from the SW - BUT it doesn't prevail all the time . . . my research (and two E2Es) says that you can't rely on a tailwind for LEJOG as there is no obvious, cast-in-stone pattern.

.... and I would endorse MickF's wisdom in suggesting that you ride JOGLE (at least the first time!) - assuming you don't live in N Scotland arriving at LE and then getting home is going to be a far easier task - and the hills, with a few exceptions, in Scotland are draggy rather than steep unlike Cornwall & Devon where you are into steep stuff on day 1 - starting from JOG by the time you get to Devon and Cornwall you have much improved fitness and strength in your legs.

... and, of course, have a look www.cycle-endtoend.org.uk for loads of resources and words of encouragement for the big ride.

Glencoe is no big deal - I've ridden both ways on a Sunday (AM going south, PM going north) and both times in mid-June. Yes there's traffic but by and large not a lot

Could it be because that's the record? You can't beat the Land End to John o Groats record if you don't start at Lands End.
