A friend of mine, a soldier at the time, was put to steering a landing craft (I think) at night. Rather than peer at the compass, he found it easier to pick a star in the right position, and steer on that. He was, it seems, unaware of the planet's rotation....

When I signed up to Komoot they gave me my local area to try it out free. Tried that first then got world wide maps afterwards can’t remember how much it was. With ViewRanger I create a route I don’t know anything about waypoints. I just download the route to my computer and use Komoot on my pc to pick the route up from my downloads.
