I doubt it, cycling and running seem to be mutally exclusive in muscle terms. The only thing you can do is concentrate on the current one for a few weeks. At least CV wise they both hold up.

I too will be running - although we're doing 1 mile sprints for the club standards - I really really hate short distances they're just so painful. I'd much sooner run a half...

Oh, and well done Pizza man - top effort, you should be proud.

true...although both exercises work your leg muscles...they work the leg in different ways.

you find you have the CV fitness to run....but after not running for amonth and only cycling...the muscles/joints were a little out of touch with running. still i had a good run...nothing too impressive tho as it was only short efforts wcich im not too good at. i have a 5mile race tomorrow which will be better....lets me put in a steady pace over a longer period of time

How about a TV show with Vernon and Pizzaman touring the globe? I'd watch.
Inspirational to all the big chaps and lasses out there - including me!

Well done mate.

Wow, got mentioned in the CTC newsletter!

Have been giving some thought to a new challenge and considering cycling from Nottingham to Moscow next year (about 1850 miles). Thinking of allowing 4 weeks to do it, possibly next July. Seems to be fairly flat, if I do it this way round I may even get the prevailing wind!

Below is an example for myself on how I could do it. Would hope to cycle further distances each day, get ahead of schedule and be able to take plenty of rest day / sight seeing stops.

Would like to go thought Belarus before entering Russia, at it seems more like traditional Russia, But that means I have the cost and hassle of obtaining another Visa.

One of the challenges I face is picking the best roads, can be tricky in this country working out if minor roads or more major roads are the best way to go. But get’s more challenging for countries like Russia where there are not many roads also Google maps and different roads atlases differ on which roads are Motorway! (e.g. parts of the m-9) Still have plenty of time to do research.

Seems like quite an interesting route, I don’t mind cycling long distances on roads some my class as un-scenic. Can anyone thing of anything obvious I am missing (such as remember to cycle on the wrong side of the road!).

Thanks
Simon

Congrats, Pizzaman!

On your planned trip, a word of warning about Belarus: the embassy is rather anal about visas, and will issue them for the exact number of days you expect to be there. As a cycle tour is obviously pretty unpredictable, I would make sure you allow a week either side of your planned entry and exit dates.

Ben

Wow!!

I have found that the Aldi Jackets and shirts fit at 23 stones and lighter and if you get there quickly there might be some stuff left over from last week's cycling clothing promotion.

Altura do a XXXL Nevis jacket which can be got for as little as £38 if you shop around.

I have a short sleeved cyling top bought from Prendas www.prendas.co.uk . They have quite few designs that go up to 6XL

An alternative source of cycling tops is:
http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/bikejersey.htm#atdsolid

I buy shorts from a gents' outfitters with a 'big boys' department they are not cycling shorts but I am lucky enough not to need chamois or creams for nether region comfort.

For winter I use tracksuit bottoms once again bought from a 'big boys' department.

Hope that helps.
