Squeeky Brooks Saddle

Hopefully someone can help me here. I am training for the Lejog and I have a B7 Narrow black leather saddle which squeeks like hell and it drives me nuts.
I have now completed about 1000 miles on it and it still squeeks. I have tightened up with the special spanner, the nut underneath but people tell me not to overtighten this as it spoils and over stretches the leather?
Any suggestions on how to cure this squeek please

It may be the saddle clamp bolts being a little loose or dry.

I accidentally discovered this was the cause of my squeaky Brooks when I leaned on the nose of the saddle while stood beside the bike.

exactly what beardy said, If that doesn't work try the seat post clamp, remove and clean the seat post and then make sure the Clamp bolt is done up correctly.
iF it is truely the saddle then a drop of oil on the nose bolt will help.

I have a Brooks and had exactly this problem. My local bike shop looked at it four or five times before they found what the problem was with mine. It turned out to be the clamp where it bolts to the seat post.
They had the saddle completely off twice, even applied a little special grease to the seat post where it goes into the frame.
Apparently it all dries out which causes this "clicking"

It is bloody annoying though when it does do it.

Can't for the life of me see any reason for anyone to ever grease saddle rails.

So who's correct? (The previous topic turned out to be a bent steel clamp. The replacement Vavert alloy one is still doing fine.)

Personally I clean and lightly grease rails.

More importantly, do NOT tighten the adjustment nose bolt on a new saddle - you will ruin it!!!

Try putting some lube on the "u" fitting that goes round the saddle rail, what the tension bolt goes through.
Had a similar problem with a Brooks Pro - I sprayed some 3 in 1 into this u fitting - problem solved.

I am sympathetic to your sensitivity to that blooming squeak... all 3 of my current rides have leather saddles and only one out of three does the squeak thing. It's the Brompton, which has a special clamp for the seat post, which involves lots of brass washers, although you can't see 'em in this picture.

I've never been able to nail the squeak, and I've used every tactic I can think of, including: tightening up the clamp as far as I dare, loosening it off a bit, spraying it with WD40, 3 in 1, talcum powder, using lots of grease/no grease, (not all at the same time, you'll understand!) and so on and so forth. The squeak always goes away for a few days and then, inevitably, returns. Personally I think it's got something to do with the fact that the seat post is titanium, but its still bloomin' annoying, nevertheless!

are you sure it's not 'yer bum'? Try WD40 on the underparts!

I found that this problem was cured by melting Proofide between the leather/metal junction at the toe of the saddle.

I found the answer to this problem was to tighten the nose bolt
- Just turn it a bit then press down with your full weight on the saddle, if its still there turn again

I guessed at the time that as the leather gets softer it causes the squeaking from that thread area
You can always turn it back to its original position if it has no effect

Definitely a smear of grease on the rails.
