I don't normally stray into this bit of the forum but I'll make an exception in the cause of fraternity.

Unless you know for absolutely 100% certain as sure as eggs are eggs and then some, don't offer any gift of a permanent nature which might be unwanted and if you don't know what will be OK, there's nobody else who does. Any amount of ephemeral / consumable stuff is normally OK and if it isn't, time moves on. Anything more permanent especially clothing but including perfume/ cosmetics means the recipient may have to fib about how it's just the job or you will be gutted.

On the assumption you feel this is codswallop, gift receipts are worth keeping.

I am persuaded to treat her to weekend in a lovely guest house in Peak District where a cycle ride is an option and top up with Halfords voucher.which would cover cycling car polish and even some tools.
