Armbike

Post by [XAP]Bob »

Just spotted to the side of the road, then stopped and chatted with, a lad with an armbike.

A third wheel clamped to the front of a standard wheelchair, with a rowing action 'handle' connected via a reciprocating loop of chain to a simple free hub.

Looked a really good fit for the lad, and less cumbersome/complex (both in manufacture and use) than the handbike versions I've seen before...

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

It is, the chain is fixed at the base of the arm, so it relies on the freewheel for resetting for the next stroke.

Looked really good, the lad was having a great time - newfound freedom :)

Fantastic bit of kit, engineering in action.
