With a long derailleur on 20" wheel I found the arm would tuck up quite a bit for grass clearance by running the smallest chainring and a smaller rear sprocket. Not the combination I would normally use, but less hay extraction later. If it's really long, then I get off and push though this would only be short distances, say to get into the corner of a campsite or park on a verge.
