They don't.

The old dynamo powered standard incandescent rear light bulb was 6V-0.1A or 0.6 watts.
New red rear LED light bulbs are 1 watt or low power white light bulbs are 0.5 watts.
So no real power saving.
What they do is throw out a lot more light for the same power used as less power is lost to heat.

Luck ........ :D

I suggest you try it.
Modern led lights use less power for more light output.
Shimano now do 1.5w hub dynamos to power led lights so your 3w dynamo will easily power more rear led lights.

Why not use two good battery powered rear lights? Much less hassle.

I use a couple of B&M Toplight Flat S Permanent on my trikes: https://www.bumm.de/en/products/akku-ba ... 329bs.html?
Powered by two AA Eneloop batteries, they last about a month (at least 30 hours of cycling) between charges.

Just yesterday, I ordered some parts to build a trailer and two Flat S Permanent will go to the rear of that trailer.

Because my multiple rear lights never need charging - once a month is too rare to be memorable, and too frequent to be convenient.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

I'd second your reservation, if I'd have to take the lights off the bike/trike/trailer for recharging.
Since they use two AA batteries, you just have change the batteries to be good for an other month of daily use.

These B+M rear lights have a small, green, battery indicator LED. If the green LED is off, indicating the batteries need recharging, they will still work fine for a couple of days longer (6-8 hours, I guess).

So you carry spares? The 6-8 hour warning is useful, I’ll grant that.

Not having to ever think about them, dismantle them, get contacts wet or bent... it still wins hands down in my book.
