Has anyone replaced the steering cups and bearings on a KMX?

I've done it on an ICE trike.
It's the same as an upwrong bike.
Undo the headset stack.
Just knock the old shells out and press the new one in.
Rebuild the stack.
Warning:- You only need just enough preload on the bearing to get rid of any play. Otherwise the bearing may give you a notched steering feeling very quickly if overtightened.

Luck ......... :D

I upgraded my ICE to front suspension and had to replace the front bearing cups and races and soon realised it was the same as an upright bike. However the KMX is a lot less sophisticated, no cups and ball bearings. Just a sealed bearing unit in a plastic cap which is set into the square frame section at the head and base. The actual pivot is a bolt fitted with a nyloc nut.

I'd just treat it like a threaded headset with a nyloc nut in place of the locknut.
Strip it down.
Replace plastic parts if needed.
New sealed bearings.
Rebuild and tighten down the nyloc nut until you just remove any play.
