Schwalbe Pro One dead!

Post by n0ct0 »

Was about to head out and saw the tyre had split in the middle of the tread. Once I’d removed it I could see there wasn’t a lot of tread left, so it’s pretty much worn out. Only got about 1400 miles out of it. Suppose that’s to be expected for a fast grippy tyre? Had to go out with the Marathon Racer fitted that came as standard. It wasn’t that bad, but I could hear it droning. Still debating whether to get another Pro One, it’s an expensive tyre and I thought it would last longer?

Two years.., not too bad.
I used to get through a set of tyres every ten months...
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Well, can't complain then. Going to try a Contact Speed instead.

Was a lot of miles in those months though - daily commute, so 100miles /week minimum.

I've give up on the Pro One's after writing off 4 of them since easing of the lockdown.

Certainly the Continental GP that went on the back at the same time is still going strong. Although I admit the front wheel does get more load as it's on a HP Speedmachine.

Just out of curiosity, what's the fitted width / depth? The last Conti 28 x 406 I tried was well under 28mm in both measurements...

Just over 27mm for both measurements. That’s on a 16mm rim.

Thanks, maybe Conti are more honest these days? I gave up with them when a 32-406 City Contact measured 26mm wide (on a 16mm rim) with correspondingly low profile
