I've mentioned on here before this sort of thing used to be quite normal. There used to be a competition at the York Rally, as it used to be called, for the best family outfit. The one in the picture would have been a long way down the list in terms of number of family members.

I remember local family having a tandem and sidecar back in 1950s Middlesbrough. The bike leaned as normal and the 'chair' was attached by two flexi links.

..... imagine what it was like pedalling uphill without the benefit of today's mega-low gears.
