Update regarding Brittany Ferries. No problems taking the rotovelo (recumbent trike with full body fairing - velomobile) on the Portsmouth Caen route. I traveled in early September 2015, both tickets were booked one way as I wasn't sure of exact return date or ferry route I would take home - was thinking about returning via Le Havre. No problems with the ferry either way. Didn't lock the machine to the boat and just used brakes locked on to prevent it moving. Did cover it with a motorcycle cover (about £9 from Lidl) which makes it just disappear and avoids curiosity from the public, kids poking about in it etc.

I was a bit worried about the return as I was arriving in Ouistraham early Sunday evening to catch the night boat back and pretty much everything in France is shut on Sundays. Ferry office was open and no problems buying a one way ticket and paying cash.

Hope to do another trip soon - hang on it's winter time now. Drat.
