SOLD Sturmey Archer X-RK8 (W) hub and shifter

Postby hercule » 7 Sep 2020, 11:43am

Sturmey Archer X-RK8 (W) hub and shifter.

New and never been used to my knowledge... I bought it from a bike shop who'd taken it off a brand new Diamondback MTB (the customer had wanted derailleurs instead apparently) built into a 26" wheel. Subsequently my father had built it into a 700C wheel but again, that was never used. It was put into a frame for sizing purposes but never connected up.

I have the non-disc version of this built into a Moulton which I am using a J-tek bar end shifter with so I have a choice of two twist grip shifters (I want to keep one in case I go back to flat bars but you can choose which one you want) - one has a magnifier over the gear number and a short twist grip, the other doesn't but has a longer twist grip. I'll put the anchor bolt on whichever one is chosen.

Non-turn washers are for a bike with horizontal dropouts, as far as I can recall. They are pretty beefy, to fit my other hub to my Moulton a lot of filing down was required!

25T sprocket. 135mm OLN with 6-bolt disc fitting.

My experience of the other hub is that they start off a bit noisy but get quieter with use. They offer a great spread of gears with 6 evenly spaced steps in the middle, with a granny and overdrive at the extremes. Note that direct drive is first (ie lowest gear), which makes them good for small wheeled machines as you don't need ridiculously sized chainrings... and it also means the most efficient drive is when you are inching up a steep hill.

£95 including Parcel Force 48 delivery

It is... I’ve just built the rim into another wheel.

Provisionally sold however...
