Wanted 24"/25" frame for Roughstuff project

Postby mdh » 3 Sep 2018, 5:16pm

I'm after a large 24"/25" frame to build a Roughstuff machine. Needs to be at least a 23" c to c top tube.
Happy with something tatty or requiring some welding work. I'd like something with cantis, although I can have studs fitted.

An old 60's/70's Mercian would be ideal.

Please PM if you think you may have something suitable.

Thanks.

I have a 1960 Mercian on eBay, but it is fully restored. Probably too nice/expensive for what you want.

Thanks both. Somewhere in between would be perfect.

I have what I believe to be a 1966 Mercian I was about to list on ebay. I tried to verify the frame number, but they don't have records going back that far.

It was sold to me as a Denton Cycles frame that had been refurbed. Denton did use Mercian for there frames at times over the years and it is identical to another Mercian I have.

The paint looks an amateur and has a few chips on the top of the top tube. There's also a tiny dent on the head tube, but you have to look hard to see it.

Comes with a shimano sealed bottom bracket and stronglight headset.

Looking for £75 + postage

This is exactly the kind of frame I'm after, but sadly both are just a touch on the small side for me. I really need a 23" minium top tube for my orangutang arms, and ideally at least a 24" seat tube.

Two great project frames for someone. Thank again for the offers.

Please get in touch if you have something similar in the above sizes. Looking at putting something together and riding over the winter.

Thanks, but again a bit small for me.

Holding old for something like a 531 60's/70's Mercian in a larger size which I can adapt to suit.

Appreciate the offers so far but still looking.

Thanks.

must it be an older frame? just seen this which fits the bill, but is more modern.

edit: actually might be a bit nice for what you are after, didn't catch mention of tatty first time.

Ideally, yes. The plan is to do some classic rough stuff trips with older equipment and garb. I have a modern disc brake steel bike which I use, but I’d like to test my mettle/metal with stuff used in the earlier days.

Thanks for the link though. It’s a whopper!
