15mm cotterless crank spanner

Postby dickcoe » 29 Dec 2018, 10:43am

Sometimes called peanut butter spanner ( don't know why ).
Around the £10.00 mark I actually want to use it unlike some on e bay at silly prices.
Many thanks Richard in Suffolk.

Various suppliers can sell you a TA one at about that price new.
ETA - I've just looked and mine cost 9.10 from SJS in April 2105

SJSC is now selling these for £27.50 on flebay

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3291125415

I would remove the bolt and replace with an Allen key version. I think they look much better than the old bolts with or without a cover.

More info here on why it's called a peanut butter spanner.

Crikey that IS rampant inflation! :(
Don't say these will get to the dizzy heights that the Campag ones sell for? ......I sold my Campag one for £40 in 2015, maybe a bad financial move on my part ? :?

Supposedly, track cyclists found that the handle was a good size to scoop peanut butter out of jars, when making up sandwiches as energy food.

Richard
can you use a 15mm socket instead ? Then I would do as fastpedaller suggest and use an Allen key replacement.

How about this tool from Velosolo?

Or, from various suppliers, the Ice Toolz crank tool includes a socket fitting to suit your requirement, but does other things too.

I should perhaps mention that I haven't used either of these, as I have various alternatives - including both Campagnolo and TA peanut-butter spanners :D

I have to say it wasn't I that suggested AK replacement - I prefer a proper hex bolt! FP

When doing an idle search, I thought I'd found the Campag ones at velosolo for 19.95, but alas the stock had run out. There is a nice-looking Haden one on Ebay :)

Didn't find that one on eBay, but did find these Elite ones, or personally I'd prefer this Park one.

Usual disclaimer, don't know much about the sellers, although I did buy a small item from Biketart recently. The Park one is cheaper from various online bike shops anyway, so may be the best match for the OP's requirement.

Now I've realised I can look at 'recently viewed' items and I've found it

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/N-O-S-15mm-C ... 4902.l9144

It says it's ended though.

Good point

I hadn't thought about it too hard. I just have a selection so that there's one to fit whatever bolt I need to remove.
