Headset tools -sorted

Postby geocycle » 4 Jan 2019, 12:14pm

Tools to remove a standard 1 1/8 threadless headset and replace with a new Hope headset. I need the flared tool that you use to knock out the old one and a good quality bearing press eg Park Tools etc. Any offers, otherwise it's down the LBS!

Make your own press.

I use a length of pvc tubing to set the crown race. Put the tubing over the steerer, turn the forks upside down and bang hard on the floor.

I've removed headset cups using PVC tube and a mallet. Do it a little at a time to push it out evenly and not flare the headtube.

I've used a buggered screwdriver and hammer to get old cups out. To fit new cups, I've made a press with threaded rod and cut-up plastics
