Swap Whyte Suffolk for flat bar tourer

I have a Whyte Suffolk road bike, in good shape, with mudguards. I would like to swap it for a similar tourer but with flat handlebars. I have bad arthritis in my hands and find changing gear on my road bike very painful. Must have hydraulic disc brakes.

Have you considered converting it to flat bars?

Pete 75 sggestion is the best move!!

Unless you really fancy a different bike??

You've had this bike how long??
You like it!
It does ALMOST everything you want it to.
It's a trusted friend!
You know its condition and history!
It is, surely by now, *instinctively, an extension of you!

Pete75's spot on here.
*But now you need to address the ONLY BIT that no longer WORKS PERFECTLY for you.

I haven't bars now but confident mates will have straight bars to send on for postage cost.
Total cost? no idea but final result will be the only operational difference to your familiar bike.
No new bike to master.
You will, of course, be able to recover some of cost by recycling present brifters through CTC "for sale" page.

Hope it all cures/improves gear changing.

Most effective changers for present condition?
A)Composite/brifter or B)separate brake and gear changers to locate to optimise on current (lack of) dexterity.

Probably worthwhile to visit local bike shop for test rides on hybrids to compare A or B systems and how
much B can be exploited and establish whether worthwhile to change to straights.
Be interesting to see how much your perfect £1000? bike is now worth as trade in?

I guess that you won't be first member to need to do this mod.
There might be relevant postings on Tech questions or Does anybody know pages?
No doubt there will be help and constructive advice from experienced members.

Hope your mod. gets you sorted .

Having just looked up "Whyte Suffolk" I would think Lesgarco and Pete75 suggestions will leave you a bike far superior to most flat bar tourers, unless someone offers you, say, a Thorn!
