If your bike is nicked in Brighton area it might be worth keeping an eye out to see if it turns up on the Sussex Police auctions Ebay page. There's a Rohloff-equipped mountain bike on there at present:

Do the cops/authorities keep goods for a while (6/12 months?) before declaring them mislaid (?) and selling them? What if the cycle is sold, but later someone can prove ownership and requires it back?

If you spot something that's yours on Bumblebee Auctions, email service@bumblebeeauctions.co.uk and hopefully they'll reunite you with your property. If in the rare case you spot your property after it's been sold, the police force will contact the buyer and attempt to negotiate its return.
If you spot something that belongs to you on eBay or in an auction house, you'll need to get in touch with the police force selling it."

Stolen property doesn’t have a good title and receiving stolen goods, my question is which specific legislation gives police good title and legitimacy to keep proceeds?Jdsk wrote: ↑23 Apr 2021, 7:41pm"Police forces say they make every effort to trace the rightful owner of the property before they sell it.Cyril Haearn wrote: ↑23 Apr 2021, 7:37pm Don't the cops/authorities keep goods for a while (6/12 months?) before declaring them mislaid (?) and selling them? The disposal of property in police possession is dealt with under the Police (Property) Act 1897 and the Police (Property) Regulations 1997 (E+W - I've no idea about S or NI)
