Don't expect the Police to rush around when you do call but they will filter the Intelligence and if there's sufficient amount/frequency of intel they will give it a really close look. The Police (locally : West Midlands) are currently having a real problem with Metal Thefts across the Board (sorry to be so blunt about your prized steeds, I know I'd be gutted if some thieving low life even touched one of my bikes) .
