Ridgeback Voyage 58cm (Large)

Postby ross980 » 9 Jun 2018, 5:49pm

For sale.
Ridgeback Voyage. Reynolds 520 steel frame. 24 speed STI (2300 levers, Deore mech). Size L (57cm frame)
All original spec except:
Upgraded wheels - Shimano XT hubs (dynamo front) and Mavic A719 touring rims
Busch & Müller front and rear dynamo LED lights
Raceblade XL mudguards
Front pannier racks
Tektro mini-V brakes front and rear

The 2018 version of this bike retails at £850 and the wheels would cost over £200 new (excluding the B&M lights).

I've only ever used the bike for commuting as I never got round to doing some proper touring as originally intended.

The wheels are in good condition (I may consider selling the wheels and lights separately if I get no interest in the complete bike).

Ideally the bike could do with a service. The middle ring is also worn and needs replacing.
One of the rear brakes needs a new spring (if these can be bought separately) though a full new caliper is only £12.50 from Wiggle.
The bike has signs of general wear and tear, but will last years to come with a bit of tlc.

Priced to sell as I'm getting a new work bike on C2W shortly.
£180 ono . Cash on collection from just north of York. I can deliver the bike to York city centre during weekday lunchtimes/5pm.

Any questions please ask.

Well it's an absolute bargain. Just bought a Specialised Sirrus for commuting at 140..but wish I'd spotted this first!

Sure you don't still want it? One for summer, one for winter. You can never have enough bikes

Update:
I found out today that the seat post is seized. I've sprayed some WD40 on it earlier but it wouldn't budge.
Also, upon closer inspection the jockey wheels are pretty worn. I also measured the chain and it's stretched. If I was keeping I would replace the whole transmission. This cost isn't significant (see below), but I don't have the time to do it and don't plan on using the bike.

The bike 'works' but as a minimum it needs a new rear brake caliper (£12.50). With some time and effort it it would make a great comfortable bike.

To reflect the issues above I have reduced the price to £100.

Example of recommended parts:
(costs from Wiggle - cheaper alternatives may be available)
8 speed Shimano Chain - £6
8 speed Shimano Cassette £10
Shimano Acera Mech 8 speed -£20
Tektro mini V brake caliper - £12.50
Shimano compatible gear cables (inner and outer) - 2x £4

Big chainring (48t) - £??
Middle chainring (38t)- £??
Small chainring has barely being used as it's flat where I live.
Note, a full brand new 8 speed Shimano chainset can be had for £35 or less from Tredz/Halfords etc. but if you can source a replacement 38t and 48t chainring it should be cheaper, though replacing the whole lot might make more sense.
