It is a scammer wanting to buy my bike and send a cheque for more than I am
asking and send a courier to collect.
The same thing happened to me on this forum 2 years ago where I nearly
went ahead with the deal but stopped it when he sent me a cheque for over
3000 euros for a bike selling at £600 !
Realizing this was some sort of scam we sent the cheque back to the bank in
Tarbes, France explaining our fears. We heard no more; except for URGENT
messages from the scammer to cash the cheque.
The same person is at it again now. He calls himself Xavier river and his
e-mail address is xriver145@gmail.com

Further information on overpayment scams: http://netcred.co.uk/security/overpayment-or-advance-payment-scam.html
Have to say I assumed cheques cleared after 5 days so this was new to me.

Re: SCAM ALERT - Overpayment by cheque
What is the best way to get paid ? . . . paypal ?
Re: SCAM ALERT - Overpayment by cheque
If you mean on here? . . . . .
I have used paypal friends and family (no fees/no comeback) on here both ways (buyer and seller) on here a few times.
I figure we are generally a nice bunch and trustworthy.
And always calculate that a scam artist would be unlikely to spend several years establishing their credentials by posting willy nilly on a range of topics considered sad and nerdy in the extreme by the general population
Be wary of course of folks with little posting history.

Re: SCAM ALERT - Overpayment by cheque
its a pity the government authorities can't use robot systems to flood known scam email addresses. The scammers would not know the wood for the trees if they had to spend a lifetime clicking on incoming emails generated from the same robot but deliberately different incoming addresses.
ps Are they greedy and do/would they take the bike as well i.e do they use a legitimate address? or is the bike dumped or returned with the postal service advising recipient not as that address. Getting the bike back is some consolation. Money is only money.

Paypal "friends" offers no protection. So if a deal turns sour then there is no recourse to getting your money back .
If its a large amount then it's prudent to pay the PayPal fees.

You'll never know if you don't try it.
