Brian Rourke 53cm

Postby Vetus Ossa » 21 Jun 2020, 3:54pm

Just putting out some feelers here to see if there would be any interest in my 53cm Brian Rourk if I offered it for sale.
There are one or two very minor usage marks that have been touched up but nothing horrible, the chrome is immaculate.
I realise many would LIKE to own it but don’t really know how much it would be worth.
I appreciate a bike is always going to be worth what someone is prepared to pay, but I owe it to my family to sell it for as much as possible while I still can.

If you list the components potential buyers might be able to better assess a price they are willing to pay?
I can see that it's got Mavic Askiums, a Regal saddle and what looks like Campag Ergo levers (8 speed?) and a 1" threaded head-set with quill stem.

I'd certainly be considering it as a winter bike but it doesn't appear to have any mudguard eyes, and the frame looks like alu but you need to check and state what its made from.

I’m not sure if Brian Rourke ever built aluminium frames but anyway, this is a tig welded Reynolds 653 frame.
I take your point about listing the components, I just assumed most cyclists would be able to see what they were.

That seems pretty poorly phrased. Maybe you meant could you please tell me what the frame material is?

It has got a reynolds sticker on it btw...

It would be a terrible shame for that to be relegated to winter duties, not least because it's not equipped for it in any way.

I'm sure if you'd posted querying the value in 'does anybody know' you would have gotten good advice. Since it's already for sale Iwon't but the frame and forks new must've been around a £1k.

Thanks Alex, I agree but it's not really for me to say.

Might be worth a punt on eBay with a reserve?

The thing with nice steel bikes is that they are no longer as cool as they used to be and you're probably looking at a likely 20% of new price (or less). However at the moment there are no bikes in the shops so people are looking. Guess it depends on how long you want to wait for a sale, i you are willing to wait years you will finally get someone come along who wants exactly that bike and will be happy to pay less than the new price. But anyone else will be comparing this to the entry-level £1000 road bike they can buy with cyclescheme.
If I had a baby elephant I would let it sleep in the garage in place of the car. If I had either a garage or a car. (I miss sigs about baby elephants)

I’m not exactly in a hurry to sell to be honest, though I may put it up on eBay at some point.
I was hoping for some interest here but appreciate most will probably be interested in touring bikes.
It's a lovely bike and will make someone who appreciates bikes such as this, a very happy owner one day.

that's the best place to put it with a reserve price on the bike, you could always email Rourke and ask if they would buy it back or sell it on your behalf iam sure they would help in some way
