Peugeot Pantera 20" - 50cm

Postby fausto copy » 28 Jun 2020, 1:52pm

As there's supposedly a national shortage of bikes, I thought I'd give this one last chance before being broken up for bits.
This is my son's old Peugeot Pantera "racing" bike, which I renovated and rebuilt a couple of years ago.
Replaced the 12 speed with 18 speed via Spa XD triple chainset and Suntour XCM from derailleur.
New 6 speed Shimano freewheel and (old stock) Shimano STX rear derailleur.
New Tektro R359 dual-pivot brakes and new Shimano levers.
New rear wheel on Weinmann XR18 rim.
As new Mavic MA2 front rim.
New Schwalbe Marathon tyres and SKS mudguards.
Ridden for approx. 50 miles since the refit (but he's bought a Hybrid :? )

Replacement parts cost just under £200, looking for £175
and ALL proceeds if sold going to NHS charities.
I'm in Pembrokeshire but postage can be arranged at cost as I have a large box available.

Thanks for looking,
fausto

Hi Fausto, hope you're well!
What a beautiful bike, I must admit being a bit of a novice I was first attracted to how it looks more than anything! :D I am looking to get my first bike in many many years.
A few questions from me,
I am 5'4", do you think this would be a suitable size?
Would you say it is on the heavier side? I've been told older Peugeot frames are a bit weighty!
Do you have an estimate of how much postage would be to Surrey?
Thanks in advance and also love to see that the proceeds will be going to a good cause!

Hi,
thanks for your interest in the Peugeot bike.

Firstly, it would be the prefect size of you, as that is almost the height my son was when we bought it.
From all the sizing charts available (and I forgot to quote) it would suit anyone between 5' and 5'6".
What's more is that when I replaced the chainset, I chose 165mm length cranks, which are more appropriate for that sizing.
They also reduce the gearing considerably, allowing you to ride up those Surrey hills.

I've weighed the bike at 12.1kg, and for reference my Thorn Brevet light tourer is 14.5kg.
The frame is made from Peugeot HLE Mangaloy steel, so is not just plain heavy gauge steel.

In the past I have used Cyclesent to transport bikes and found them fine.
I've looked on their website and the insured cost to deliver would be £39.98p.
However, I am prepared to cover the insurance cost and reduce the price of the bike slightly,
giving you a total delivered price of £200.

regards,
fausto.

Hi Fausto,

Is your lovely Peugeot bike still available? It looks absolutely gorgeous! I am 5'2", so believe it would be a perfect size.

Please let me know!

With thanks and best wishes,
K
