Bought in August 2017 direct from Thorn, and used only for around 250 miles near the Thorn/SJS shop, not used since due to arthritis in my thumbs. The frame size is 475M for 52cm forks, and this is reckoned by Thorn to be suitable for men or women from 1.49 to 1.57 m tall in bare feet (4'11" to 5'2"). BUT Thorn also recommended it for my 5ft 4in height, as I have slightly shorter than average legs. More relevantly perhaps, the height from ground to middle of the top-tube (ie the 'stand-over height') is approx. 71.5cm (2'4"). For a full explanation of their sizing, please message me for their brochure. if you can get to the Edinburgh or Kinross areas, then it will be possible to arrange a trial ride (subject to social distancing etc).

The frame is Thorn 969 double-butted, seamless, heat-treated, cold-drawn, Cro-Mo steel, absolutely immaculate, with not a chip or other mark on the paintwork anywhere, even underneath the bottom bracket, chainstay, etc. There are some marks on the Topeak Super Tourist DX pannier rack, which is inevitable as soon as you fit panniers and/or lean it against a wall (see picture).

It was supplied without pedals, as they are such a personal choice, and the pedals currently fitted, which are included in the sale, are older than 2017, but also in good condition. The rear wheel-stand shown in the pictures is NOT included - it is merely there to stand the bike up for the photos!

The saddle is a new Sportourer Talisman gelflow unisex type. As saddles are very much a personal choice, I will knock £20 of the final selling price if you don't want the saddle. Note that although new, it has a couple of minor marks from being a shop display item - see picture.

The handlebar is a traditional swept back horizontal style. OPTIONAL: for an extra £30 on the final selling price, you can choose instead the terrific Humpert Ergotec Adjustable bars (picture on request) - this is a brilliant option, as it allows all kinds of variations of riding position, and as a bonus, makes packing it up in transit case a lot easier too. If you choose this option, my partner will fit it and transfer the brake and gear levers, etc

COLLECTION / DELIVERY: if you cannot collect the bike, it will be sent by specialist Paisley Freight, who have long advertised their specialist bike courier service on eBay, and who WE have used before. In that case the bike will be supplied partly dismantled in a bike box (wheels off, pedals off, handlebar twisted round, or off, etc) so you will need to be confident about re-assembling it, or pay a local bike shop to do that for you. If you live within about 100 miles of Edinburgh, we will be happy to deliver it, fully built-up, for cost of fuel only.

* Security: as this is a valuable bike, it has a hidden, non-removable RFI 'Immobitag' which means if lost or stol[code][/code]en, police can trace its registered owner - registration will be transferred free of charge to the new owner. This is much more secure than the frame number.

We love to cycle on B roads and country lanes. These roads are in worse condition today, than anyone can remember. On these roads, fat tyres, which are zero-maintenance suspension, make great sense. They make just as much sense in the pot-holed streets of today’s cities!"
