I found it quite difficult to listen to with the background music so might not have caught it all.
It didn't say anything new AFAICS and it didn't crack the old chestnut of individual choice over public policy: the individual can say, "It works for me, I don't increase my risk, it doesn't put me off cycling."

It doesn't say anything new but it does put things together in an easily accessible package, useful when I next need to point anyone to the arguments against helmet compulsion. I expect they'll be more receptive to being asked to watch a few minutes of video than to being asked to plough through websites full of reports and summaries of research.

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

Clear presentation of the key points presented in an effective, modern way.
Well done to them.

Drives me crackers.Cyril Haearn wrote:Why is muzak played while he is talking?
Why people expect this sort of thing is acceptable, I don't know.
Other than that, it was a good presentation plainly put in a nice and clear way .................. but spoiled by the music.

Also, to some extent reaching a broader audience than those who normally follow the debate re compulsion and already know the arguments.

Apart from the muzak, the other downside in reaching a new audience with these arguments was the unfortunate appearance of the presenter. Not his fault, but - how can I put this - he looks the way a non-cycling sceptic would expect a Guardian cycling journalist to look. And unfortunately appearance counts for so much these days if you want to be taken seriously.

What would be an appropriate appearance? Sir Chris Boardman might be my choice, he has a beard, is that appropriate? No need for a visible presenter maybe?
I wish I could just read the text sans muzak
Helen Pidd is a keen cyclist, she is now the Guardian North of England Correspondent, she described how the paper required her to get a car when she moved from London to Manchester, is cycling in the Northern Poorhouse not so easy?

So do I, a bit unkempt with a lot of grey
But Sir Chris has a better accent than me, I went to school in Oxford, I might sound too much like David Cameron

Many jobs have practicalities where a bicycle may not fit the bill.
It may be that in Manchester the job is one that requires attendance at incidents or events where cycling not a practicable method and car or public transport is more efficient
For instance a quick glance on Twitter discusses a rail journey to Sheffield today
Another day of glamorous Northern bus, sorry, “train” travel - taking a Pacer to Sheffield to see the council try to send four tree protesters to jail
4.5 hours etc each way by bike, 1 hour by train.
