Do you use any special care or grooming products? I see the drugstores have dreamed some up, trying to make more money

Not really - food remains tend to provide sufficient stiffness and resilience case of accident.

I am also thinking of adding lighting as a safety feature (and a touch of Piratical dash), I was planning to use LEDs as opposed to fuse or candles

You could cut it all off and knit a lovely warm jersey as described on the thread about marino wool :wink:
