I was bagging prickly plant stems yesterday, and the bags are just not made for them. This is an excellent digression. We must ask GT to express a view on this matter.

Hmmm note to self,dont forget the leather gloves next time

Half my hedge is hawthorn, all 8 feet tall of it, I get at least as many pricks to the hands wearing leather gloves as I do without, it's more of a bind when trying to reach in when I'm cutting back as they get a bit more snagged, so I rarely bother wearing them had a few javelins stick in but no infections in 22 years

I doon't agree with the thought process of wearing for riding off road, again it's a case of when you duck you know where your head is, with a helmet not only do you have to try to duck lower you're hugely increasing the chance of catching the helmet, I used to do a bit of downhill riding, frankly if I wore a helmet I'd very likely do what most others do and end up riding more aggressively and again increasing chances of an off which at usual downhill speeds a helmet is very very limited IF it works to its lab tested limits.Too often you see newbs attempting jumps and runs well beyond their capabilities, come off, smack their faces, get concussed then thank that they were wearing a helmet for saving their life

Either we were far superior bike riders BITD (on bikes that had nowhere near the braking or tyre tech just to name two disadvantages) or helmets in any type of cycling is a load of pony. Given the number of helmet saved my life/saved me from massive brain trauma I can't see how BITD there weren't thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of TBI/serious head injuries every year. It simply does not stack up in any way shape or form.
Personally I'm going for superior bike riders, kids like Geraint Thomas are clearly so unable to keep coming off all the time he needs to biologically change his body so it more like this

On this occassion I did.
As the finger was red and sore and as the redness was going further up the finger,I thought better being safe than sorry.

Just saw GT at the start of the Tour of Britain Devon stage. He was wearing his helmet what I would call "cosmetically" with a good two inches of slack in the chinstrap. That ain't likely to stay put in a crash.
