Which Women's Helmet?

Post by groberts »

The choice of helmets is frankly bewildering.

My wife is looking for a replacement helmet - budget £60 to £90, maybe MIPS, in a small size. From personal experience can anyone provide any ideas of what might fit the bill? She currently uses a 10-year old Specialised with a front peak, which she seems to like for some reason, though says it's no longer necessary,

Thanks

My wife got a Lidl one last time they had them: I think it was £15 and there was a choice of sizes, including S, and there's a decent range of adjustment within sizes. She uses it for racing (when not racing, she doesn't wear one). Mine is a similar Aldi one, also adjustable and a range of sizes, and a quite small female fellow coach got one at the same time.

There's not much point spending more than that if all you require is a helmet made to "a recognised standard". If you want something with a bit of chic then choose according to her idea of it, and that'll cost you more.

Have a look at the latest Specialized helmets. My wife is on her third one. Their range starts from about £35 and they have a mid priced one for about £80. Their latest ones have MIPS.

Generally, more money buys you lighter weight and more vents. Both my wife and I have Echelon II helmets, but she previously had one similar to the Align.

If you don’t want to spend that much, then Planet X Carnac helmets are super cheap and still quite well vented and stylish.

What ever fits your head. First thing to consider. Once you have done this look at spec etc.

Thanks for the comments.

FYI she went to the LBS and now has a rather nice women's Giro Agilis helmet + MIPS.
