HELMETS

Postby LANDSURFER74 » 1 Feb 2011, 8:05pm

As moderators leave a trail of locked pages behind them can someone explain why there is no CTC campaign, posted in the Campaign & Public Policy section of the forum, not hidden away in "Helmets", with regard to the helmet issues in Northern Ireland and the anti-cyclist behavior of the Headway charity, and the support it will give to compulsory helmet legistation for the UK?
If there is and i have missed it ... well another senior moment...someone point me the right direction.

Or is it as a new charity the CTC does not want to be seen to challange other charities activities?? :) :) :)

I can only find the details by searching. But yes there hasn't been much that I've heard (although I'm neither in NI, nor do I sit in their parliament)
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

The CTC has always avoided the debate by promoting (as far as possible) a "choice" for the individual

CTC has always opposed legal compulsion that cyclists must wear a plastic hat.

The CTC Campaign team are probably pulling out all the stops ( in whichever ways are most likely to be effective ). **

Each time these threats of legislation appear, they have to divert their limited resources to lobby, influence and persuade that such legislation is not a good thing.

I expect that Roger Geffen et al are tearing their hair out having to wearily tread down the same path for the nth time.

Here is a link quoted from the other topic [ I have amended the title of other topic to clarify that it relates to N.I. ]

** I'm afraid that I don't have any visibility of what the Campaigns Team are reporting back to CTC members about the N.I. situation. ( Or even if they have time to report back at all. )

I somewhat surprised that there is no mention of the proposed NI law on the CTC "Campaigns and Policy" page: http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4517

Nor on "Campaign News" page: http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4519

However, it is in the current CycleDigest #64, 2010: http://www.ctc.org.uk/resources/Campaig ... 010%29.pdf
