Kids helmets do diddly squat....

My swedish isn't very good - but apparently the helmets tested don't even meet the laughably low criterion for existing standards....
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

If you can find any helmet that protects against "rotational injuries" good luck. They are designed to protect against impact injuries.

The insurance compnay that sponsored the test has published a comprehensive report (which? style) on their web site

http://www.folksam.se/testergodarad/sak ... mstestbarn

They didn't test for protection against rotational injuries, but they tested against oblique impacts, which are likely to cause rotational injuries.

Google translate does not (of course) do the report justice, but you can get the jist of it. Here's a translated link. If you don't read Swedish and it doesn't work, just go to the orignal site (linked above) and plug it into Google translate, or your preferred translater... http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... mstestbarn

Precisely, no helmet on earth can prevent rotational injuries. They are designed to stop you stoving your skull in.

Bicycle helmets can't even do that, so what's the point?

(*Not quite true, there's at least one model currently for sale that is designed to reduce rotational forces)

The Phillips Head Protection System (PHPS) allows helmets to imitate the way the scalp moves over the human skull when it receives a glancing blow.

A helmet that imitates not wearing a helmet...wonder how much they cost?
