perhaps could try by fitting in the end of each leg one of those plastic "dish pads" that are fitte in bicycle wheels when shipped? Any good LBS would give them for free...
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...
