Best camping gadgets

Post by CyclingTerrier »

So I'm trapsing through countless Web articless trying to find inspiration visa vie camping gadgets which are actually functional, useful or not prototypes.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what gear they think is pretty neat/nifty or something they find utterly indispensable I'd love to know so I can accrue a good wishlist for the next adventure.

Anything can and should be posted including the obvious or what you believe to brthe best of the best( like say the best lightweight tent or campingstove).

Are you referring to this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Primus-Clip-On ... B01CDW85W2

If so,
Will it work with most stoves or is it just for primus ones?

Unfortunately no.

Those with long memories may remember the loooooong running thread about this item. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
Unfortunately it appears to have been consigned to its fate in a revamp of the forum

They work with most canister-top stoves.
Watch out for unusually long pot supports, or a stove that's short enough that it doesn't reach the top of the wind screen, restricting you to narrow pans.

I use a remote canister stove, so I use a concertina wind screen. The integrated pegs make it usefully easier to use than the more normal (if lighter) strips of heavy duty foil.

- a sit mat - a small square or foamy stuff that doubles as a mat/kneeler in the tent vestibule when I'm not using it to sit on;

- an adapter so that you can connect to the three-pin campsite hook-ups;

- Nitize s-biner that doubles as a bottle opener;

- universal sink plug for hand washing clothes (plus clothes pegs)

- Muji sewing kit

- McNett Tenacious tape and Silnett (is that a gadget?)

- nail pegs

- plastic hammer for tent pegs

- Petzl Tikka headlight (or the Alpkit copy).

Credit card in case it all goes wrong!

I'm just packing at the moment actually but I've always found it a question of weight v usefulness for anything beyond tent, Mat, bag.

We got a 10000mAh battery pack from Tesco's fit £15. Perfect for the 2 weeks holiday we've just a had. Works for phones and GPS. For that money it's pretty good.

-Tyvek as groundsheet (cheap and light)
-Friendly Swede flint (it works, unlike others)
-Orikaso folding plate (great for food prep)
-Light My Fire spork
-cheap wooden spatula from Wilkinson
-plastic 1/4" tap on 10cm piece of hose with a quick-connector for the Hydrapak bladder (you can wash yourself in the morning!)
-Ikea ziplock bags (cheap and reusable, keep things dry)
-thick rubber bands (from office furniture supplies)
-contact lenses container (to keep toiletries essentials like Sudocream, Tiger Balm, etc.) instead of bringing along the whole big tub
-gaffer tape wrapped around the pump

Well having given it some thought the stuff I swear by is as follows

Sea 2 Summit Alpha cutlery - super light and big enough to use without feeling like it's children's stuff!
S2S Xpot folding kettle - brilliant and multipurpose
Orikaso crockery - weighs nothing, stores flat
Pegisu mallet - surprisingly effective considering it's size/weight
Antigrav water bag - 16g and holds 4l
Aqua Pure system - why be without potable water?
Silk bag liner - helps keep the expensive bag fresh, adds extra warmth and can be used on its own if it gets too hot for the bag!
Green Hermit towel - tiny, drys you and itself effectively
Vaude Power Lizard tent - light, fast to erect and (so far) has survived everything that's been thrown at it.
Specialised EMT Pro MTB multitool
Leatherman Squirt P4 - everything the EMT doesn't do!
S2S ultrasil nano drybags

In addition I might add my Soto Windmaster stove for its efficiency and the GSI ultralight condiment store which is tiny but allows me to spice up sometimes bland self catering with fresh pepper and dry salt.
Convention? what's that then?
Airnimal Chameleon touring, Orbit Pro hack, Orbit Photon audax, Focus Mares AX tour, Peugeot Carbon sportive, Owen Blower vintage race - all running Tulio's finest!

I'd love to use wood as fuel, but not really compatible with my camping style, especially when on the road bike. Have to stick with Ethanol
