Recommended Campsites Norfolk?

Post by Sweep »

Can anyone recommend any?

In a few weeks I'll be doing some pootling around some old childhood holiday haunts.

A bit of freecamping maybe but with some recourse to campsites.

I'll end up training it back to London from Norwich (I will have cycled out).

I'm looking for.

@Simple - just need a clean toilet block and shower.

@ No need for it to have a great view/that's what the day's cycling is for.

@ Cheap.

@ "Facilities" beyond toilet and shower are not needed.

Look at the main Camping and Caravan Club sites.
They are where I always try to aim for if possible when I'm on tour in the UK.

Even as a non-member you should be able to stop at less than £10 a night bikepacking.

Norwich Club Site , Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 2HX. Edge of town.
West Runton Club Site , Cromer, Norfolk, NR27 9NW. Down a steep gravel track.
Sandringham Club Site , Sandringham, Norfolk, PE35 6EA. In the trees.
Kessingland Club Site , Nr Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR33 7TF. Near the wildlife park.
Polstead Club Site , Polstead, Suffolk, CO6 5BZ. If you're coming from the south.
plus
Thetford Forest, Puddledock Lane, Great Hockham, Thetford IP24 1FJ. Not sure if they are still franchised.

Thanks for that tiger.

Anyone know this?:

Not as central as I may have hoped but sounds good for cyclists.

Havent been there for some time but I expect you could wild camp on the grassy dunes south of kessingland. I would if I was going up that way.

in fact a very nice place indeed with a small lake almost on the seashore.

if no good you could go to the nearby camp site?

wild camping?

I stayed at Kessingland and West Runton C&CC last year. Both nice sites although for 2 a little expensive as you have to pay per person. Worked out about £22/night for 2 people on their backpacker rate.

Thanks for the tip mercalia. Never wildcamped on a beach/dunes (just woods/fields) - slight concern about sand in mechs etc. Likely to be an issue do you or anyone else think or am I fretting too much? Will definitely try to check out that patch/area if I get up that way,

I have stayed a couple of nights at a campsite near Potter Heigham bridge can't recall the name but go past Laythams on your right and it is about 400 yards on the left. Also there is a nice on at Repps Staith about a mile from Potter Heigham.

Another one I have used is at Reedham Ferry on the Reedham side of the river.

I see the talk about Kessingland but isn't that in Suffolk?

Causeway cottage? If so do you have more detailed memories bikepacker?

Sounds on the face of it small and nice though I did see a review from several years ago that said it was 50p for 4 mins of hot water

It has be a couple of years since I last camped there what I can remember is: It was run by an Australian guy who was open to negotiation on price, so ignore the sign at the door. The site is a long narrow one first I camped up by the very basic but clean toilet/shower block. Next time I camped for two nights down the far end which was slightly less used grass and quieter. Overall I would say it was a good site, much better than some including one last week in Ireland.

Also there is a nice chippy just by the river bridge. I liked their roe and chips.

Might be the place - seem to remember that their basic web site mentioned a local chippy.

Ps, do i take it you didn't shower in your 2 days? :)

All the best, thanks for the replies.

I did take a couple of showers but can't remember having to pay. Maybe I did maybe I didn't.

Stayed here http://www.whitehallfarm-accommodation. ... Tarif.html in July last year as a solo motorcyclist and paid £10 midweek. 5 mins walk to The Nelson pub in Burnham Thorpe.

I have also had a very pleasant stay here http://www.boldingway.co.uk/index.html, again 5 minutes walk from the pub.

We stayed here a few years back on a tour round the North coast:

Simple, well maintained facilities and peace and quiet away from the main holiday area
