Well just picked up a softie 9 factory second from the nice folk at Snugpak - will report back on it - may well be used in odd wild places in next couple of months.

Also a softie silka lite, a very fetching softie hat and softie tent boots (too small strictly but won't matter for intended use) - feel ready for anything :)

what are softie tent boots? sounds like carpet socks/slipper socks? or what ever they are called, to wear inside instead of slippers

It doesn't seem that big Dave. I currently use a mountain equipment bag which is bigger. I know some folk put their bags in their panniers but I carry a lot of junk and see no great problem with putting a bag on the top of the rack.
Have bought the bag and other warm snugpack extra warm bits for future colder camping - not sure where I will be camping this summer. If in warmer climes can always open the Softie 9 out.

Encouraging that you rate Snugpak stuff Dave. I know that not all of their stuff is UK made these days but they are pretty upfront about that. You can I understand sleep with your boots on in the Softie 9 but I won't be doing that. :)

their pertex fabrics and loft stuff used to come from the specialist mills in west yorkshire and I assume they still do, we've got a well used 20 odd year old merlin still going strong and their green bags were so popular with serving troops the MOD paid attention so they got a military contract out of it for threes, sixes, nines and cold weather suits for iraqistan.
