Lightest Decathlon tent yet?

Post by SA_SA_SA »

I saw the following in Decathlon:

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/900-1-person-trekking-tent-id_8492462.html

It was marked 1.1kg (which would seen reasonable given the small footprint-size) but the website seems too differ?

The bag it comes in is marked as 1650g, which sounds about right for a small cheap tent

It is an imitation of the MSR Hubba, but heavier and smaller. So you pitch the inner first. It is 1.6 kg all inclusive, which is fine for a budget tent. Quality looks pretty decent, with a DAC featherlight pole. The biggest drawback seems to be that it is very narrow. The Wildcountry Zephyros 1 would be a relevant alternative if you are looking for an outer first tent.

It has one review 1 out of 5 stars. The comments are it's difficult to put up and the floor is like cigarette paper but this is just the opinion of one person.

But if it breaks then Decathlon will stand by it, I know.

I think they are a very impressive outfit indeed - the Ikea of the outdoor world.

The nearest Decathlon to me must be at least 100 miles away.

The only two Decathlons I've visited are in Toulouse and Barcelona but I bought a dynamo hubbed wheel off them last month without leaving Bristol.

Very, very narrow inside. It makes my Jack Wolfskin Gossamer look like a palace (apart from its height). Good to crash out overnight though.

It is indeed comparable to Ikea:
high quality design teams who really know their stuff
production in low wage countries
huge sales volumes and low distribution costs

Wiki reports that decathlon has 300+ stores in France, must have a quasi monopoly, does it compare to halfords in the UK?

Are there many LBS left over there?

Why is there only one Monopolies Commission?
