Camping togs for men Guardian Style

Post by mercalia »

Why am I not surprised? Get ready for a laugh, a very very big one. The one I liked was the black sweater P.O.A :?

I wouldnt be seen dead wearing them. Maybe easier to tell a Guardian reader from any other camper though.

Look at the prices. More than I spend on the whole trip

maybe the Guardian article is a bit tongue in cheek ( carry on camping...) but the creators of the togs are deadly serious as are their prices?

The photographer chose the right model - he looks a proper walley?

Guardian photographer: "Into the camera... that's great... no smiling... NO SMILING... perfect! Now, here's a can of beans. Imagine you're a banana, trying to REACH that can of beans. Be the banana. BE THE BANANA". :?

Well, if that’s the type of person that the Guardian feels are its readers then my views on the Guardian are confirmed. Sad really, but (IMHO) it does confirm the stereotype of folk with more money than sense with little idea of what ordinary people actually do.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

The money’s obscene. Though 3 pairs of socks at £8.99 seems reasonable. Perhaps someone in the fashion world could be persuaded to shoot bike from Halfords/ clothes and kit from Decathlon/ diet from McDonalds, cycle tourist bloke at the out of season French muni.

For balance

I would caution you against taking this sort of nonsense as any indication of what Guardian readers are really like. Especially when it confirms your own stereotype.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

They're taking the pith in the Guardian article - why do you think they chose that Charles Hawtrey looking guy to model the stuff? Now if it was in the Telegraph they'd probably be serious.

What's your definition of "ordinary people" and what do they actually do?

It’s funny but as I went back to my tasks I wondered for a while if the article was some type of wind-up - some folk would think it funny - and resolved to look in more detail when the daylight was gone. My views on the Grundian are now reset, enjoy that paper if you wish but it’s not one that I’d feel accurately and impartially informed by.

I note Mike’s point though; never be guided by your own prejudices and I’m sorry to say that for a little time there I was.

If we look at the url: https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/gal ... n-pictures
we will see that this thread has misled us.

I see from those photos that a sock sandal combination is on trend and so the fashion peleton has finally caught up with me.

I always have a Dinner Jacket (velvet, dark blue) and a clean hanky in my panniers when I'm camping, just in case - don't you know.

Happy days,

I had thought my contempt for champagne socialists was deep rooted, but I think it may just have gone a bit deeper. I stopped buying that out of touch rag about 15 years ago. Very funny though.

Is there a single newspaper anywhere, from any time that you'd make such a claim for?
Often seen riding a bike around Dundee...
