I wouldnt be seen dead wearing them. Maybe easier to tell a Guardian reader from any other camper though.

Look at the prices. More than I spend on the whole trip

I've always kind of liked those jackets and vests with all the pockets, but those pictures put me right off them

p.s. I think that the 'carry on camping' in the title suggests mockery.

Happened to me, so embarrassed as then ( dont know now ) was pulled out of a line of people coming back and they dump all my dirty stuff on a table for all to see.

Returning from a French cycling tour my brother and I were pulled out of the line of cars coming off the Roscoff ferry into a bay.
"Got any gear?" said the customs man, in a cunning attempt to catch us off balance.
Unfortunately our immediate association with "gear" was derailleur.

There is a huge distinction. It's a fashion article. The clothes are fashion items inspired, loosely at least, by scouting and camping. They might be worn on the high street by the more avantgarde and daring but you're more likely to see them in a more "fashion-forward" environment. They are not for camping any more than a down hoodie from the North Face worn on the high street is for hiking or climbing. What these garments are for is looking good - or rather, looking fashionable, which is not always the same.

However, it has prompted a good discussion and it's always good to have a bit of a laugh at other people looking silly! Unless they're mamils of course.

well I wait with bated breath to see some one wearing them in public I would have thought the only place to wear them would be where few others or no one else is around to see you eg camping. What is a "fashion-forward" environment? Some where for prat-wear? Well if I ever need some one to argue my case I will remember you and drop you a line

Perhaps you could take yourself off to the London, Paris & Milan fashion weeks to vent your fury at the assembled fashionistas. I think that would be a more appropriate setting than the Cycling UK camping sub-forum.
