I think that's version 1.

My link was to a version 2.

They look different in the pics.

Yes one's green and one's black. Not so different apart from that - here is the v1 in green https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15901509/o ... 7bfe85af5d

I think it's the same as my Gelert Solo - Gelert was absorbed by JD Sports as well.

Gelert are part of the Frasers Group which is Sports Direct which is a cut price rival of JD Sports. They have bought various other brands including Karrimor.

Edit see brands

It certainly has alu poles which is always a mandatory upgrade from fibre glass. Keen at the price.
1.5 kg & 8 inches higher and thats what you pay for £85, only 213cm inside but wider and taller and lighter compared to your link.
The solo appears to be longer at 250cm?

Oex again, though not hooped.
https://www.blacks.co.uk/equipment/3292 ... gK-QPD_BwE

Folks got any views?

£40 from blacks and other places, supposedly half price.

Seems to be plugged as breathable, though seems to say it's made of nylon.
I have a british army bivi, though the temptation of this is that it packs a lot smaller.

thanks for that - i knew it was around for cheaper but not from blacks themselves!

would be very interested in any experience of it - it is definitely way smaller when packed than my army goretex - have seen pics of it packed.

Hi,
Even if you work out if the material is going to be suitable or for your uses.
You still have to content with the sizes or not whether or not people advertising the stuff ever quote sizes
I brought a cheap Gelert One which is very cheap but came in handy for a bit of extra protection on some chilly mornings.
I think if you're going to use it outside with no other protection they need to be generous in length and width so there is enough room for sleeping bag and a couple of extra items stored for security.
I think mine weighs 330 g and is just nylon treated.
I mainly carry it for extra protection or if I wanna get down for 40 winks on the grass during the day.
It does appear that a lot of people buy this kind of stuff simply for emergencies et cetera.

Gore-Tex is more expensive and heavier.
But I've been using treated cheap and waterproof jackets for many years now that's breathable ones.
I've only had one dud one in about 10.
for most peoples uses whether it be walking or cycling I think a treated jacket is more economic or and I have found as long as it is lined works very well.
For the most part I only need an outdoor jacket for wind protection.
I haven't tested bivy bags extensively but it does appear that hoops to make it into a mini tent make it darn site more comfortable.

will ponder it awhile I think - the big pluses of my goretex bag are:
a known quantity - and I have slept in open fields in it.
Plenty big enough to very easily slide a sleeping mat straight into it - am more than confident that the OEX will be big enough for me (I am very average in dimensions) but maybe not for the mat.
The goretex bag is damn tough - no worries at all about damaging it.

The 'original price' of £200 on that is a joke. They don't quote the weight for it anywhere or any other technical details either.
I'd consider the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer as an alternative - I have had one for 8 years now, it's very well-built. Ther are lighter alternatives, but you have plenty of room for your feet at the end and the groundsheet is thick and durable. The whole groundsheet + footprint things always strikes me as a silly game on getting headline weight numbers down. It's really just on the tent side of the tent / bivvy dividing line. You can just about get all your kit inside it for sustained nasty weather.
