One to avoid though was the one near Chepstow. A nice garden to camp in but no facilities. I was quite miffed as I phoned in the morning and said I was cycling 60 miles in the heat but she neglected to tell me there were no showers
Plus the pub she directed me too wasn't serving food the evening I was there. Luckily Domino's delivered!

Low Farm Park, Folkington, Lincolnshire. http://www.lowfarmpark.co.uk/
Straightforward site in very pretty village. Lovely lanes in all directions, undulating arable farmland, lots of old churches. Site has toilets, showers and two washing-up sinks, all nice and clean. There is a field with mainly caravans and large tents, and a field with an orchard area for smaller tents.

Agree with that but the village is called Folkingham - pronounced Fokkingham.

Have changed it :-)

Field head campsite Edale, Great campsite one thing that impressed was they don’t allow cars on the fields. So it puts off the tent mansions. Showers toilets, washing up, fridge and freezer all in a central block. Great view of Mam Tor and kinder Scout. Within a ten minute walk the village, with shop, chip shop and a choice of two pubs.

https://www.duinhorst.nl/en/ A clean and comfortable large but well spaced out campsite with shop and restaurant. Showers and washing up water had to be purchased via a token seppeately (1 euro for a few minutes). Only a couple of miles from The Hague centre.

Only 14 miles from the hook of Holland Stenna Line terminal, so ideal for the ferry.

Stayed July 2019.

Demesne Farm campsite, Bellingham (NY840832)
http://www.demesnefarmcampsite.co.uk/

Book in at the house just over the road
Facilities adequate rather than luxurious, good grass. The non-hookup tent area is at the far end, so maybe 100 m to the loos.
Just off the centre of the village, with a short walk to the co-op, pubs (the Cheviot was the best) and (small) bike shop.

There's also a Camping & Caravan Club site on the B6320, a little over half a mile south from the village centre.

Kielder campsite NY627938
https://kieldercampsite.co.uk/

By the North Tyne, just north of Kielder village, with off road track into village.
Good facilities, good grass, but sheltered and close to river dampness, hence midges. Repellents etc available from reception.
Pub & cafe in village (~500 m walk down track), but the village shop/post office is closed.
I was informed that there is a small shop at Kielder Waterside (8 km), but if that's not adequate the next nearest is probably Bellingham (30 km)

Just for something different...
Kershopehead bothy, in the forests at NY544862
Image

The "bunk" at the back is just about wide enough for two friendly people, and hard enough to warrant a mat. There's a similar bunk upstairs, along with a fairly clean and smooth wooden floor for additional people.
Facilities are water from the nearby streams, and a spade to dig a hole a significant distance from both the bothy and the streams.
There may be dry firewood/kindling in behind the door to the left of the main door (which I used as a bike shed). There's plenty of brushwood in the adjacent felled areas, so try to leave more wood drying than you found when you arrived.

I reached the bothy from Kielder, on NCR 10, turning back upstream after crossing the Kershope burn back into England about a mile before the road. This turned out to be a mistake - I should have headed uphill from the bridge to English Kershope and used the high level route, as the riverside tracks were freshly resurfaced with difficult stones that hadn't seen enough traffic to have bedded down.
Direct from the road, the easiest access is from NY503834, almost at the top of the hill just south of Kershope Bridge (5.5 km).

Haltwhistle CCC site, NY684620
https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.c ... club-site/

Quiet riverside location 3.5 km SW of Haltwhistle, at the bottom of a steep hill (any direction, easiest towards Haltwhistle).
Good facilities, good grass, not too large.
Ex railway cycle track towards Haltwhistle (5 km) from just south of the top of the hill.
Closest pub is a bit under 1 km along the railway track away from Haltwhistle (1.8 km total). No meals, but otherwise quite nice.
Otherwise shops & pubs are in Haltwhistle

France

All of the prices are for two touring tents and four adults.

Chamonix- Le Grand Champ - Great site in Les Houches. Worth it for the view alone. Plenty of facilities. €30. Don't expect quick replies to emails or FBI posts. https://www.campinggrandchamp.fr/en/home/

St Jean de Sixt - Again, lovely views. Up a steep hill just out of town. Seems a bit underused. Pitches are alongside a quiet road. €28. http://www.camping-du-cret.com/

Sallanches - Bad point. In a valley with motorway on one side, railway on another and apparently a fly path for helicopters. You soon tune this out and the sites swimming lake with views of Mont Blanc are stunning! http://mont-blanc-plage.net/en/home/ €30

Bonneville As a stopover, it's unbeatable. Very clean facilities, plenty of room. Under €15! https://www.tourisme-faucigny-glieres.f ... onneville/

Hope this helps.

A reminder...

Could you please post reviews in separate posts.

If you don't, the index will contain a link to (in this case) "Chamonix, St Jean de Sixt, Sallanches, Bonneville"

This means that the places concerned won't (usually) have any reference to the area they are in, and the link will just be bunged at the end of the list for the relevant country, rather than appearing in the geographically relevant place.
(the usual order is alphabetically by county, department, province, or whatever, and alphabetically within the same county)

Ling's Meadow Campsite, near Barningham, TL976754

Great little campsite which has been built to be eco-friendly. Big meadow with a small number of pitches (max 30 people). Woodfires encouraged, outdoor cooking area, including a woodfired pizza oven. Can arrange delivery from local bakers and butchers, honey available from farm.

Just off NCN 13 - we were offered bike storage in barn.

How does the index work? I'm about to add an entry, but found the list of existing entries hard to review. In the end, I simply used Ctrl + F to search for key words, which I failed to find... (Wilcot / Pewsey / Golden Swan)
