What makes a good cycling group?
I been thinking about the problem of low participation rates among CTC membership.
With everything being equal is the decisive factor to make a good club is if the group interacts socially?
Comments welcomed.

In my experience cycling groups are always friendly and nice to ride with. The problem is that the roads around here are not anything like as nice to cycle on as they were 20 years ago. Too many huge 4x4s being driven far too fast. One near miss can kill the atmosphere of a nice relaxed bike ride stone dead.

It probably depends on the group. We've had one of our riders forced off the road by a White Van Man after maybe 10% of the ride and still we continued to the end pretty cheerfully, although that particular ride didn't have any complete beginners on it.
MJR, mostly pedalling 3-speed roadsters. KL+West Norfolk BUG incl social easy rides http://www.klwnbug.co.uk
