Boardman owes Obree an apology.

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

Hi,
Worlds apart, where is Obree now?

Being selfish is a step to success or one of that you need.

Good that he has said that but its easy to say what he likes with all that success.

I saw him a couple of months ago doing a Q&A session after his Battle Mountain film. He was on top form, open and amusing, he looked like a man relaxed with himself and assured of his place in cycling history. He may not have the profile or wealth of CB, but he comes across to me as a man who has followed his own path, on his own terms and seems content with where it's got him.
Good that he has said that but its easy to say what he likes with all that success.

I disagree that it's easy to look back on your past and so openly discuss your faults, I'm not sure that having succeeded makes it easier. The more I hear Chris Boardman, the more I like what I hear. If he hasn't already, I hope he gives Obree that apology.

Hi,
I agree, I like both of them.

I don't follow what Obree is doing, normally but I will take a look.

The film is still going round, though not many dates left with Q&A sessions

If it's anywhere near you go see it, you can take someone with no interest in cycling, it's a great story, well shot and well told.

Chris seems to be doing the rounds - I suppose it's because he's got a book out.

He's also had an interview on BBC News HARDtalk which covers his times against Graeme Obree as well as other aspects of his cycling career & racing in general.

You are encouraged as an athlete to be a selfish person which people do not realise and it does not generate a nice person.
Yep: seen that in other sports too.

It's heartwarming to see that I do think he owes one. I never liked Chris and his clinical approach but always warmed to Obree.
I maybe owe Chris an apology as I have warmed to him over the last few years. Maybe meeting Ned Boulting has brought out his human side.

Big obree fan, his book is awesome! Worth noting at his memories of boardman are competitive but also positive (eg lending obree a helmet for an extra aero advantage, after obree beat him in the semis).
Obree was always going to struggle, but not because of Chris; he had so much baggage that it would have been extremely hard for him to succeed even with the opportunities that Chris was offered.
Read his book, it's so good you get upset that it was clearly written by a world champion who built his own bike...

I'll look out for it, but I've seen the film so that might spoil it.

I'm about three-quarters of the way through Boardman's autobiography and it's excellent. Recommended.

The film is available on amazon as well
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
