Lack of interest in the Olympics.

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

Nice J-class video though :)

I have a real thing for J-class yachts. Went on one once and it was "dramatic" (though not sailing!). Also know somebody who owns one (or knew as lost touch some time ago). They are quite stunning boats.

Lasers are "ok" with regards the arms race, except the grief caused by the sail issues. What that has caused is 3rd party companies making "knock-offs" and selling them as "training sails". Much cheaper, modern sail cloth so they also last unlike the class legal ones. And the lower cost means club sailors buy them so most club racing fleets (in my experience) will have at least 50% of the fleet using illegal sails - but the club allows it because their main aim is to get people on the water and the legal sails are just a joke. A few years ago I joined a new club and 1st time there fleet captain told me to put away my class legal sail and get a 3rd party one for racing and keep the class legal sail only for open meetings (where class legal gear is mandatory). And "the cat is out of the bag" now and it has immensely damaged the class ... thank you Olympics.

I was amused by the concept of Ranger displacing 20 tons more than the next heaviest J  That's what you call a proper keel boat

Hi,
In a mainly MTB shop with the odd pedalec thrown in.
The guy behind the counter said when I asked had not seen any of the Olympics, that probably includes the MTB race which I did not see the end because you would have to have know that it ended on the red button, only tapping the series would have got it.

When I watch the box I often find football or some other sport sitting where the news should be on the BBC, and often wish the BBC had a sports channel so all the sport could be dumped there!

It really annoys me when they move things from channel to channel halfway through, usually to fit around the schedule of 'important' programmes on BBC1, why don't they just keep it BBC2, the same if things are likely to over-run, put them on a channel where it won't conflict with the news etc. It would be simpler if they just designate one of their channels for all of their sport, just so that's the first place to look, even if the channel isn't a dedicated sport channel. There doesn't seem to be all that much sport on the BBC anymore anyway, I don't know if this is true or not, certainly they have fewer major sporting events than they used to.

To be honest I drive a car, but have no interest whatsoever in Rally Driving, Formula 1 or any other form of motor sport

I do however find it annoying that because I ride a bike I am expected to show an almost fanatical interest in a small and elite section of cycle sport

Although I'm interested in cyclessport, I don't know how anyone can sit through hours of coverage of the world championships, or come to that, TDF stages. I watched the last 10k of both the men's and women's races this weekend, which were quire exciting, but both had been on for hours beforehand.

I have club mates who will watch every bit of cycling that's on Eurosport, but I find I can't get into the more minor races and don't have time to watch them anyway. So for me it's just the classics and highlight programmes of the grand tours. I'm thinking of giving up my my subscription to Eurosport, as most of what I'm interested in is shown on ITV4.

For the TDF and other major races I watch the Channel 4 / ITV4 highlights and fast forward through the waffle.
And like Cunoblin i don't understand the link between me cycling up hill and down dale and an interest in wealthy "Elite" sports specialists ...
I see the "girl with the big bum" is suing for loss of earnings, how is she financing her continuing list of litigation ?
Why did she not turn Pro ?
The whole Olympic package has got out of hand in cycling ....I'm watching as it slowly unravels ... :(

Girl with the big bum - is that Jess Varnish? She is a one-lap specialist, there's no demand for such a rider in the pro ranks, where even track specialists like Laura Trott has to ride for a road pro team. Plus there's not the money in women's pro cycling that there is in the men's. I think Lizzie earns a decent wage, but not many others do.
