La Course 2017

Post by thirdcrank »

A bit slow off the mark as usual, I've only just latched onto the details of this edition of La Course. My initial impression is that it should be more interesting from a TV spectator's POV than lapping the Champs Elysées.

The idea seems a bit like the Hammer Series - a climbing stage setting the time gaps for riders setting off in a pursuit - which is interesting but I still think ASO should get their head out of their backside and move on from La Course to helping get the Route de France back on the top-level calendar with the coverage and profile it deserves, or resurrecting the Boucle (maybe with help from the organisers of the Giro Rosa) if they really can't reach some agreement with the Gerardins.

The men's edition of La Course only happened once and then they moved on to resurrecting the Tour - this year is the fourth women's edition, which is pretty sad.
