Had he aero-waxed his Victorian racing 'tache it might have been the World and not just the British record! Chapeau, and a rousing Hurrah! in any case

Re: Mark Beaumont's pennyworth
The 2010 winner of the Knutsford Penny Farthing race, Jim Brailford, averaged over 22 mph for 3 hours, 107 laps on the 1 km course. Not to knock Mark Beaumont's achievement but is this new record on the basis of the location (Herne Hill Velodrome), or the fact that he wasn't using pneumatic tyres? I assume if the Knutsford race had been (only ) 1 hour long then the average speed would likely be significantly higher? Mark was also paced although whether this is very different to racing in a bunch of individual competitors is open to question?

The towed bicycle speed record has apparently also been broken. (The rider is towed up to speed - in this case by a Porsche) and then continues a short distance under pedal power.

Meanwhile, in other news, the End-to-End record has been broken but the media apparently don't notice.

Catch the BBC video, and there is a wonderful part where his daughter refuses a cuddle because he "smells". just a brilliant human touch to the story

It appears Neil may have broken the European record today at a speed of 135.3 mph. For anyone who uses facebook some details here.

The various cycling-media reports generally seem to be unaware of Andy Wilkinson's 41 hours, 4 minutes and 22 seconds record which is of course not proper cycling because the mount was designed to a functional end rather than to satisfy the particular and peculiar requirements of the Luddites of Lausanne...
